Eleven Years and Counting: Celebrating International Scrapbooking Day!

Today is one of my favorite days.

Sure, I love the sales and the AMAZING new products all over digiland.

But it’s more than that. This weekend coincidentally marks my own digiscrapping anniversary.

This hobby is so much more than just a hobby. It has opened doors, offered opportunities, and put me in the path of some of the most amazing and inspiring women I know.

Coming from all walks of life, all family circumstances, and yes, even all political camps (is it November yet??), we women (and the few incredible guys among us!) have entered into each other’s lives because of a mutual love of memory keeping. I am continually inspired and encouraged by our scrapping community.

For many years I tried to release the artist in me. Trying my hand at drawing, painting, pottery, and jewelry making, I always came up unfulfilled (and if we are being honest, completely untalented!) But photography and digital scrapbooking? My love of family, stories, and memory keeping collided in their own Big Bang to create something so beautiful and fulfilling that I can’t imagine my life without it.

And so on this day, as I do every year, I express my gratitude for this hobby, this artistic outlet that allows me to celebrate all I hold most dear.

Eleven years and counting.

And as I do each year, I created a layout to commemorate my digi scrapping anniversary.

(layout credits: My Life Online, one of our Exclusive kits for long-term members)

It’s my scrapbooking journey by the numbers:

  • 8 Creative Teams (the most I was on at the same time!)
  • 6 Months of learning to scrap and living off of freebies (mostly Shabby Princess) before I bought my first digi products
  • 100’s of digi friends, but online and in real life
  • 5 years of selling templates at Sweet Shoppe Designs
  • 2 years selling templates at Scrapbook Graphics
  • 2000+ memories and stories recorded through scrapbook pages
  • 3 dead computers (I should have added almost four!)
  • 1 website created

As you shop celebrate and scrap the day away, let me encourage you to take your own walk down memory lane as you consider your scrapping journey.
